{"id":49,"date":"2024-07-15T16:35:22","date_gmt":"2024-07-15T06:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/incodocs.com\/blog\/?p=49"},"modified":"2024-10-31T14:25:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T04:25:33","slug":"certificate-of-origin-from-chamber-of-commerce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/incodocs.com\/blog\/certificate-of-origin-from-chamber-of-commerce\/","title":{"rendered":"How to get a Certificate of Origin from a Chamber of Commerce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chambers of Commerce play a pivotal role in providing Certificate of Origin documents used for global trade.<\/h2>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>First of all, a certificate of origin document is an important document used in global trade to confirm the country of origin of where the goods have actually been manufactured or processed.\u00a0 So, the document will be used when the country of export and the country of import have a current Free Trade Agreement in place (see bottom of article).\u00a0 These free trade agreements can reduce or eliminate import duties and tariffs in the country of import.\u00a0 Chambers of Commerce will authorize Certificates of Origin documents used in global trade.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How a Certificate of Origin works in the import-export process<\/h2>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The certificate of origin document will be used by the importer\u2019s freight forwarder, customs agent or customs broker during the import customs clearance process. \u00a0These brokers will use the certificate to prove to customs that the goods have been manufactured within the country of export.\u00a0 As a result, this will reduce or eliminate the import duties that are payable on imported goods.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bijpHM8b0ys\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which party provides the Certificate of Origin?<\/h2>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The shipper can create their own <strong><em>Declaration of Origin<\/em><\/strong> template to make a declaration on behalf of their company.\u00a0 This document will state the country in which the goods were made (usually the country of export).\u00a0 However, most import countries customs departments will require that the certified document\u00a0 <strong><em>from the local Chamber of Commerce in the country of export.<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0That local Chamber of Commerce will act as the 3rd party that will verify the shipper\u2019s declaration.\u00a0 They will charge a fee to sign and stamp the document.\u00a0 That document will then become &#8216;certified&#8217; then the shipper will email it through to the importer so that it can be used in the customs clearance process.
