{"id":68,"date":"2018-09-04T08:31:13","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T22:31:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/incodocs.com\/blog\/?p=68"},"modified":"2025-05-28T14:14:34","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T04:14:34","slug":"shippers-letters-of-instruction-freight-export","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/incodocs.com\/blog\/shippers-letters-of-instruction-freight-export\/","title":{"rendered":"Create and Download a Shipper&#8217;s Letters of Instruction Document"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Create and Download a Shipper&#8217;s Letter of Instruction Document<\/h3>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>A Shipper\u2019s Letter of Instruction (SLI) is an essential legal document\/contract created between the shipper and the freight forwarder (or 3rd party) that is organizing the export of a shipment.&nbsp; It is a detailed document used in International trade that provides logistics instructions relating the the export of a shipment.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The freight forwarder will use this <a href=\"https:\/\/incodocs.com\/template\/shippers_letter_of_instruction\">Shippers Letter of Instruction<\/a> to correctly arrange the transport and logistics of the export shipment.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Details that are required on a Shipper&#8217;s Letter of Instruction template:<\/h4>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shipper and Consignee<\/h5>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The shipper will confirm the details of the exporting company (shipper) and the company overseas that is receiving the cargo (the consignee).&nbsp; This requires the company name, address, contact phone number, email address etc.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notify Party<\/h5>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>If the consignee works with another 3rd party in the country of import, that company&#8217;s details can be added as a Notify Party.&nbsp; Again, the notify party will also include company name, address, contact phone number, email address etc.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Forwarding Agent<\/h5>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The forwarding agent is the freight company that is nominated to arrange the logistics of the shipment.&nbsp; The freight company will require their company details, logo and their specific terms and conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cargo &amp; Product details and descriptions<\/h5>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The SLI will require detailed fields on the products and packaging details.&nbsp; These details include description of goods, number and kind of packages, Gross weights (kg), measurements (m3), shipping marks &amp; numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>Shippers must declare if the shipment includes any Hazardous \/ Dangerous goods and if the shipment is under a Letter of Credit contract.&nbsp; In addition, any other special instructions or additional information can be added.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Departure and Destination details<\/h5>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The port of loading and port of discharge for the shipment (airport or seaport).<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shipment Type &amp; Pickup Details<\/h5>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The Method of Dispatch (Sea, Air, Road, Rail), Type of shipment (<a href=\"https:\/\/incodocs.com\/blog\/shipping-methods-types-and-containers-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Shipment Type &amp; Pickup Details - The Method of Dispatch (Sea, Air, Road, Rail), Type of shipment (FCL, LCL, Breakbulk etc) and determine if the freight is required to be picked up from the shipper's address. Each of these freight companies will request that shippers complete an SLI document to their own specific layout or template that specifically includes their logo and terms and conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of that, each freight company will have their own unique layout for the SLI, which is time consuming to complete each time.&nbsp;
